Question 1

How many dog parks are there in Kamloops?

Accepted Answer

Our directory lists 10 dog parks in Kamloops, with hours, amenities and maps for each. Kamloops is one of the best equipped small cities in this guide: 90% are fenced, 90% are spacious, 80% have water, 80% have bins, 60% have separate small dog areas and 60% supply waste bags. Seven of the ten are open 24 hours.

Question 2

Are Kamloops dog parks fenced?

Accepted Answer

Almost all of them. About 90% of the parks we list are fenced, one of the highest rates anywhere in this guide. That takes security largely off the table as a deciding factor, which is rare, and lets you choose on other grounds such as shade at 50%, water at 80% or simple proximity. It also makes Kamloops well suited to newly adopted dogs still building recall.

Question 3

Do Kamloops dog parks have water?

Accepted Answer

About 80% do, a very good rate that matters considerably in a hot dry interior summer. Taps may be shut off in winter, so carry your own as a backup year round. Combined with bins at 80% and waste bags at 60%, Kamloops requires less bring-your-own preparation than most cities covered in this guide.

Question 4

Are rattlesnakes a risk near Kamloops dog parks?

Accepted Answer

They are present in the surrounding dry grasslands during warm months, particularly on south facing slopes and rocky ground. Keep dogs on established trails and out of scrub, and be aware that a curious dog investigating a rock pile is the classic scenario. Grass seeds and burrs are a more routine problem, so check paws, ears and coat after visits, especially for long-haired dogs.

Question 5

Does wildfire smoke affect dog walking in Kamloops?

Accepted Answer

It can, and it is a recurring issue in late summer. On smoky days, keep exercise light even when the temperature feels comfortable, since fine particulates affect dogs much as they affect people and are harder on brachycephalic breeds and dogs with existing respiratory conditions. Shorter, slower walks are preferable to a hard run at the park until air quality improves.
