Question 1

How many dog parks are there in Los Angeles?

Accepted Answer

Our directory lists 12 dog parks in Los Angeles, with hours, amenities and maps for each. Given the size of the city, the practical question is usually which park is within a realistic drive rather than which is best. Of the parks we list, 83% have a designated off-leash area, 33% are fenced and 33% have separate small dog areas, the last being a better rate than most large cities here.

Question 2

Do Los Angeles dog parks have water?

Accepted Answer

No water source is recorded at any of the LA parks we list, and none supplies waste bags, so treat every visit as entirely bring your own. Shade is also scarce at around 8% of listed sites. In a climate where heat is a year round rather than seasonal consideration, that combination means carrying more water than you expect to need and keeping sessions shorter than you might elsewhere.

Question 3

Are foxtails a problem at LA dog parks?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and they are one of the most common causes of avoidable emergency visits in California. Foxtails are barbed grass seeds that appear in dry grass from late spring, and they burrow into paw webbing, ear canals, noses and eyes, usually requiring veterinary removal. Check your dog thoroughly after every visit to a grassy park, paying attention to between the toes, and consider a park with maintained turf or wood chips in season.

Question 4

Are there coyotes near Los Angeles dog parks?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Coyotes are common across Los Angeles, including residential neighbourhoods and canyon-adjacent parks, and they are most active at dawn and dusk. Keep your dog close during those hours, never allow chasing, and be especially careful with small dogs. Fencing, at 33% of listed parks, is worth prioritising near canyon edges where wildlife and steep drops both present risk.

Question 5

Do LA dog parks have small dog areas?

Accepted Answer

About 33% of the parks we list do, which is better than most large cities in this guide. Separate areas matter for puppies still building confidence, senior dogs who cannot absorb a body check, and small breeds at genuine physical risk in mixed play. Use our filter to find them, and respect the divide even when the small side is quiet and the main side is busy.
