Overview
Westminster Hills Open Space in Westminster, Colorado is one of the largest off-leash areas in the country, covering roughly 440 acres of open grassland with views across the Front Range.
This is not a fenced dog park. It is open space where dogs are permitted off the lead, and it has worked that way since 2001.
In 2024 the city council formally created a new category in the municipal code and designated the site a Dog Off-Leash Natural Area, giving it specific protection and specific regulations.
More than 750,000 visits a year make it one of the busiest recreation sites in the region.

Planning Your Visit to Westminster Hills Open Space
There are two car parks, at 10499 Simms Street and 11610 W 100th Avenue. The site is open sunrise to sunset, seven days a week.
Scale changes how you use a place like this. Dogs disappear over rises quickly and there are no fences to stop them, so solid recall is not optional here.
It is a living prairie ecosystem as well as a dog area, which is what the natural area designation is intended to protect. Staying on established routes and picking up waste matters more here than on turf.
Bring water. There is no supply out on the open space, and Colorado sun at altitude is harder on dogs than it feels.
