Overview
The South Mountain Dog Park sits within South Mountain Reservation, a 2,110 acre Essex County nature reserve spanning parts of Maplewood, Millburn and West Orange, New Jersey.
The dog park has separate fenced areas for big and small dogs.
Getting there takes a little navigating. From the Brookside Drive and South Orange Avenue junction in Millburn, head east on South Orange Avenue for about a mile to Crest Drive, follow that for 0.6 miles to a barricade, then turn right into the car park.
Leashed dogs are welcome on the reservation trails outside the fenced area.

Planning Your Visit to South Mountain Dog Park
The scale of the reservation is the point. Over 2,000 acres of woodland with waterfalls and marked trails means a visit can be a serious walk on the lead as well as off-leash time.
The directions are worth writing down. The dog park is not signposted from the main reservation entrances and satellite navigation tends to send people to the wrong access point.
The wooded setting keeps the site cooler than an open park through a New Jersey summer.
