Overview

Sylva Dog Park is a small fenced off-leash area inside Mark Watson Park in Sylva, North Carolina. The wider park also has picnic areas, ball fields, basketball courts and public restrooms.

The enclosure is compact, with dirt and paved surfaces rather than maintained grass, plus benches, shade in parts and waste stations along the adjoining path.

There is no water supply inside the fence. There are bowls, but the nearest fountain and bottle filling station are outside the enclosure near the tennis courts, so bring your own water.

Reviewers are consistent that it works for a short visit but is tight when several dogs arrive at once.

What to Expect at Sylva Dog Park

Expect a modest space that suits a quick outing. Kevin Cryer sets the tone: "It is tiny but at least they have a dog park to go to. Bring your own water there are bowls but no water source to fill said bowls in the dog park."

Carrie Herron repeats the same warning, which is the single most useful thing to know before arriving: "You gotta bring water for your dog. There is a water bowl inside the fence and a water fountain close by but it is not inside the dog fence area."

It still works well for some dogs. Ashley Thurston found it "great big enough for my golden retriever to run around like crazy. There was tons of left over tennis balls there for him to play with."

Others want more from it. D Love of God writes, "Wish it could be extended on far side to make it larger. It is a small space. Especially when multiple dogs are there." L Cardinal points out that much of Mark Watson Park is on-leash, noting "there is a concrete path with pet waste stations along the way. Dogs must be kept on leashes," so keep the lead on until you are inside the fence.
