Overview

Wescott Dog Park is an off-leash park at 9006 Dorchester Rd in North Charleston, South Carolina.

It has separate large and small dog sections, a water supply, plenty of shaded seating, agility obstacles and restrooms nearby.

Part of the surface is artificial turf, which cuts down the mud, though open areas of dirt and sand remain and still turn soft after rain.

One hazard to know about: a cone in the large dog section covers sharp metal set into the ground.

What to Expect at Wescott Dog Park

Mr. Phillip The Dog Groomer lists the mix: "Well maintained park. Astro turf, natural grass, obstacles, big dog area and a small dog section."

Karl Salisbury explains what the turf does and does not solve: "The artificial turf section is nice to reduce the amount of mud in the park. However, there is still a large area of open dirt/sand/mud that the dogs can run through."

Jeff Vaughan finds the large side a little tight but notes it "does have water available and plenty of seating in the shade."

Kayle Strickland flags the hazard directly: "the cone in the large dog side is actually covering sharp metal embedded in the ground. Could hurt a dog if it hits the[re]." Give that cone a wide berth.

Dora Murphy, a long time visitor, reports a recent increase in aggressive dogs, so judge the crowd before going in.
