Planning Your Visit to South Run Dog Park
Gravel is the right surface for a park under this much use. It drains after Virginia thunderstorms, does not turn to mud and keeps dogs noticeably cleaner than turf would.
The perimeter trails mean an owner can walk while a dog runs, which is a better arrangement than standing in one place.
Mature tree shade is the park's strongest feature through a humid Northern Virginia summer.
The rec center next door means restrooms and parking are close by, though the car park fills when classes are running.
